You’re Not Who you say you are

You’re Not Who You Say You Are

The entity being referred to here is categorically the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society which is the corporate identity of Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide. This body makes all decisions on belief and doctrinal interpretation, as well as all decisions on lifestyle and acceptability. This includes things such as approved employment, forbidden education (not allowed with the threat of sanction beyond mandatory levels), dress codes, hairstyles, acceptable entertainment, and more. What that means in real terms is that they decide what every Jehovah’s Witness worldwide, believes and does. Without exception. There is no such thing as a personal faith or belief within the fellowship. Everyone believes the same thing. This is seen as a sign of unity and an identifying mark of being part of “The One True Religion”. In reality, this is strictly enforced uniformity. Removing freedom of thought, choice and action.

Jehovah’s Witnesses use specific terms when referring to themselves collectively or to their leadership, which they believe is God’s exclusive mouthpiece on Earth. The Three terms commonly used are The Truth, The Organisation, or The Society. All three terms carry strong cult connotations which surprisingly to onlookers, are not triggering to active members. This is due to conditioning resulting from constant use and regular repetitive exposure to these terms, which means that they do not find them unusual or alarming as a non-member with a clear and open mind would. In the outro of the song is the lyric “You said you were The Truth, said you had the proof, said you were the only way to find the way” This is a reference to these terms. This song is about a member realising that “The Organisation” or “The Society” is not the mouthpiece of God on earth, that it no longer has the hold over them that it once had, that it does not have their best interests at heart, and that far from being “The Truth” it is a web of untruths, half truths, deception, and lies, from which they have awakened and broken free.
